Sports Diver

If you want to take your underwater adventure to the next level, the BSAC Sports Diver (SD) is the next step in BSAC’s Diver Training Programme. Becoming a SD is about expanding your practical diving abilities, rescue skills and the development of your theory knowledge. You will broaden your experience in a variety of challenging open-water conditions and learn essential techniques in preparing you and giving you the freedom to develop, explore and experience exciting diving all over the world with extended depth limits & dive times in a range of challenging conditions. To enrol you must have completed an Ocean Diver course (or equivalent certification) and be aged 14 or older to progress to depths up to 20m.
Disciplines taught include rescue, enriched air nitrox, decompression and navigation diving. Developing buddy diving skills is an important feature of the course, ranging from dive leading & embracing dive management to polishing rescue skills & techniques, assisting & recovering an injured buddy and basic First Aid application. The course heightens an awareness of the need for safety at all times by extending the diver in different diving environments and to excel at underwater navigation.
The course depth limit is 20m which can be increased step by step up to 35m after qualification. Following SD qualification, more than 30 BSAC Skill Development Courses are open to Sports Divers and options for diving significantly expand by entering the next grade in BSAC’s Diver Training Programme – Dive Leader which enables you to organise dives and expeditions within your BSAC Club.
