About Cyprus

Located in the eastern Mediterranean, the climate of Cyprus is typically Mediterranean, with hot summers and mild winters. An agricultural landscape is spattered with ancient castles and Greek and Roman ruins. South Cyprus is a popular holiday destination with a developed tourist industry where there are many hotels and apartments on offer. Greek is the spoken language but English is widely understood and the currency used is the Euro. Traditional Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine is widely available and recommended and local Cypriot wine plentiful.

Geographically, Cyprus is in the pathway between Europe and the Middle East and much of Cypriot history is owed to its location. In 1974 Turkish seizure of the northern section of the island, in which hundreds of thousands of Greeks fled to the south, resulted in the ‘Green Line’ which separates the Turkish North from the Greek South. Greek Cyprus offer the visitor the tranquil harbour and archiological sites of Paphos (the old capital of Cyprus), the beautiful Troodos Mountains, 24-hr clubbing in Ayia Napa and miles and miles of beautiful beaches. Kyrenia, in the North is easily accessible now and a popular scenic and historical hotspot.

Cyprus is a good place to learn to dive with safe shore dive sites. Also on offer, are close-to-shore simple wrecks, the more adventurous Zenobia (one of the top 10 best dive sites in the world) and exploration of numerous underwater caves and tunnels. Cyprus would make a perfect destination for divers who have a non-diving family with them and for those who just want to squeeze in a few dives whilst away as there is plenty to see above the water, its history, culture and the beauty of this Mediterranean Island.
